Mark Helms

Cosmetic & General Dentist

When most people enter a dental office, it is usually not the place that they love to visit... but I take great joy in helping my patients feel comfortable and informed about their dental visit and dental needs.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of North Carolina.

I have two married sons with lovely wives and two beautiful granddaughters that bring me great joy also. My hobbies include playing bridge and doing a little gardening. My faith is of utmost importance to me, so my Bible studies and times with friends are very, very important. Life is good with a job that I enjoy and a faith that totally sustains.

Dental Hygienist

Amy graduated Phi Theta Kappa from Wake Tech Community College where she
obtained her Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene. She has been surrounded
in the dental field her entire life; between watching her mother run her
own Orthodontic Lab for over 52 years and then running her own Orthodontic
Study Model Lab for 16 years. Amy also has been a Certified Pharmacy
Technician for over 10 years. When Amy decided to return to school, she
knew that she wanted a career where she could combine her skills and be
able to utilize her strengths to provide optimal dental health and allowing
her to make a difference in someone’s life.

Amy grew up in Connecticut and has called North Carolina home since 1998.
When she is not at work, she is usually busy spending time with her
daughters, her husband of 19 years, her recently retired parents and her
great friends. She also loves to give back to the community by
volunteering her time at local dental events.

A personal message from Amy:
"My goal is to make each of our patient's comfortable while providing them
individualized dental care and education relating to their oral hygiene so
that they may have a healthy, beautiful smile. I look forward to meeting
you at your next appointment!"

Dental Hygienist

Kathryn (Kate) has recently moved to NC from WA. After her time in the
Navy, she used her GI Bill for DA school. Kathryn has worked in the dental
field as an assistant since 2014. She is in hopes of starting school again
to further her Dental education. Patient care and education are her
favorite parts of Dentistry. “I love teaching patients the steps to every
procedure that we do, so they can better understand what we are doing as we
work in their mouths. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.
I would love to teach you our Dental ways!”

In Kathryn’s spare time she enjoys spending time with her family,
snowboarding, running, listening to music, and finding new restaurants to
eat at.

Dental Assistant

"I have been in dentistry since 1999. I started out as a dental assistant
for 10 years and then moved to a more administrative role. I love working
with patients and seeing the life change that comes with a beautiful smile.
I recently moved here from Naples Florida. I love everything outdoors;
boating, going to the beach, fishing and paddle boarding."

Dental Assistant

I initially became interested in persuing dentistry because of several family members and friends who were already involved in it. I have been a dental assistant for about 8 years now and enjoy the fact that the field is always growing and provides many opportunities to continue learning. I truly enjoy helping patients feel at ease in the dentist chair while providing them with dentistry of the highest quality. Few things compare to helping someone become proud of and confident in their smile.

Outside of the office I enjoy being outdoors, music, movies, and spending time with friends and family.

Dental Assistant

Claire has been in the dental field since 2012. Before starting with Dr.

to pursue further education in the world of dentistry. Claire is
originally from the Northern part of England and moved here with her family
in 2004. After graduating from Sanderson High School she continued her
education at East Carolina University where she majored in Public Health
with a minor in Business. In her spare time, Claire generally prefers to
stay active as she enjoys tennis, yoga, volleyball, and home improvement.
However, she does love spending time with a good book too. As well as spending

Our Services

Our dental office provides all of the following services. Be sure to click on the services below to see a video explaining the treatment.

Crowns & Bridges

If your tooth has become weak due to fractures, excessive decay, or large failing restorations, Post and Core Buildups are a great remedy. This procedure provides strength to the remaining tooth structure so that it can support a Crown or Bridge. Bridges are one, among many, options for tooth replacement.

Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed.  Many people choose to have veneers placed for cosmetic reasons. They are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.

The direct technique usually involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.

The indirect technique usually involves two appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.

Dental Implants

A great way to replace a missing tooth is by means of an implant. Following the placement of your implant by a specialist, Dr. Helms, will provide you with aesthetically pleasing Implants. Dr. Helms works hard to ensure your new Implant Crown looks natural and blends in with the rest of your teeth.

Want straight teeth? Dr. Helms provides cosmetic orthodontic treatment. Depending on your specific needs, Dr. Helms Raleigh Cosmetic team will recommend the orthodontic options best for you. Options include metal/tradition braces or Clear Correct. There may be some more complicated cases that Dr. Helms will refer out to a specialist.

Already had orthodontic treatment but lost your retainer or need to have it replaced? Let Dr. Helms Raleigh dental team know! We can fabricate a retainer for you even if we did not provide the initial orthodontic treatment.

A healthy mouth means a healthy you! Preventative care includes Prophylaxis, Radiographs, Sealants, Flouride Treatments, Scaling & Root PlaningNight Guards, and Sports Guards.

Do you have bad breath? Tooth sensitivy? Pain when chewing? Gum recession? Irritated gums? Bleeding when you brush your teeth? These may be an indication of gum disease! If caught early, this can be treated. Learn more by watching this video.

Sometimes teeth needs restorations. As an experienced cosmetic dentist, Dr. Helms works hard to ensure all of your restorations are both strong and aesthetically pleasing. Many of our restoratives involve tooth colored composite fillings. These composite fillings may be used when removing tooth decay, replacing old amalgam fillings, repairing chipped teeth, or when placing cosmetic bonding. If needed, Dr. Helms also offers amalgam fillings , temporary fillings, inlays and onlays.

It’s true that you can purchase whitening products over the counter, however, there are huge advantages to allowing dental professionals to help you whiten your teeth. Please watch this video to learn about these advantages. We offer several different whitening options: Opal Go!Opalescence Whitening Gel with Custom TraysIn-house Whitening With Boost!. Please ask our team about whitening at your next visit. We can create a custom whitening program just for you!

Oral Surgery

Dr. Helms provides limited oral surgery which is described as simple extractions. Any extractions that he feels will not be considered simple will be referred out to an Oral Surgeon he recommends.

Dr. Helms provides root canal therapy on anterior and some posterior teeth. Depending on the case, he may refer the patient out to an Endodontic Specialist that he recommends.

Partials & Dentures

There are consequences to having missing teeth. Would you like to learn more about these consequences? (Click Here) We offer many options for tooth replacement. Some options for tooth replacement include Full Dentures, Partial Dentures, or a Flipper. Each of these are custom made to fit your mouth and adjusted to ensure optimum comfort.
